Darla Sue Smith, 62, of Spring, TX, passed away on May 28, 2020 in Spring, TX due to complications from pneumonia.
Due to COVID-19, a small funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Thursday June 4, 2020 at Grace Crossing Church Outdoor Pavilion, Conroe, TX with Carl Ethcison officiating. All visitors will be asked to maintain social distancing and wear a mask. Darla will be cremated, and her ashes spread amongst her favorite places.
Darla was born in Pittsburg, KS on January 12, 1958. She graduated from Putnam City West HS in Oklahoma City, OK. She attended college at Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah, OK. After college, she married her husband, Mel, on September 1, 1979 in Oklahoma City. She worked as an accountant for Halliburton Oil Producing Co. early in her career and Continental Operating/Posse Resources for the latter part. The interim time between accounting jobs was filled with a job as a stay at home mom and multiple positions within the school districts in which her sons were attending. She was involved in cub scouts, little league, and active in her church and PTO.
Darla is preceded in death by her mother, Norma June Kemp-Buck, and her nephew Chance Quintero.
Darla is survived by her husband, Mel; her sons Shane and Shelby, Shane’s wife, Kyndall and Shelby’s partner, Sarah; her siblings Jeff Silvers, Jan Payne, Sherry Vogler, Debbie Biggs, and Ron Silvers; her grandchildren Beckett and Cooper Smith; her Uncle Jess Kemp and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
